{ Characters: Basil of Baker Street }

Basil (also known as Mr. Basil and the Great Mouse Detective) is the famous and respected Sherlock Holmes of the mouse world. Very similar both in character and situation to his human hero, Basil resides in Holmestead, a mouse community built in the cellar of Sherlock Holmes' residence at 221B Baker Street, where he has solved many of London's most dangerous crimes. At the top of his caseload is the capturing of his arch-enemy, Professor Ratigan, who has narrowly evaded his grasp for many years. Finally, in 1897, Professor Ratigan is killed atop Big Ben whilst attempting to rid Basil once-and-for-all.

An intelligent, sharp and brooding mouse, Basil lives for his work--preferring to work alone, until the Flaversham case brings him into the company of Dr. David Q. Dawson. After the case is solved, Dr. Dawson becomes Basil's life-long partner-in-crime.

A proud bachelor and not entirely fond of children, this sometimes arrogant, yet, charming mouse enjoys playing the violin. His other personal hobbies include archery, archaeology, and mountaineering.
